1642 : beginning of the Civil War
1649 : trial and execution of Charles I + beginning of the Commonwealth
1653 : Cromwell became Lord Protector of the Commonwealth
1658 : Oliver Cromwell’s death
1660 : Restoration
1679 : the Habeas Corpus Act
1688 : Glorious revolution
1689 : Bill of Rights + Toleration Act
